Stapleton Allotments

Following a competitive tender process, to carry out the construction of a multi-purpose amenities building with ‘green’ credentials at Stapleton Allotments, Bristol. The site was handed over to us following completion of works for the remodelling of the allotment site by a Civils contractor. Temporary welfare facilities were installed for the allotments holders, and the site area where the new building was to be constructed was highly secured with access and egress routes segregated. Works involved extensive ground works with a deeper than usual strip and block built foundation due to buried asbestos sheeting being discovered and removed from site prior to works starting. This included extensive stoning up following the construction of the foundation in order to bring the ground back up to the correct level. The building was constructed using high density selcon block work. The green roof was constructed using trusses manufactured off-site, receiving a ply, sun tunnels and rubber membrane finish followed by a natural sedam grass. Once the building was in the dry the internal floor was screeded. Internal metal doors and external aluminium doors were installed. The building was internally dry-lined and plastered. Externally, the scaffold was stricken. The external walls were prepared and a Webber colour render applied. A Tree Box living green wall was then fitted to the North and East elevations. The building was decorated internally and finishes fitted including carpentry, a kitchenette, tiled disabled WC, vinyl and carpets. All electrical and plumbing was surface mounted. Works were completed with a sewage treatment plant installed into the ground externally, ground levels being stoned up, base coat and black top applied. Bike racks were fitted along with roller shutters for added security. All works were successfully completed within the programme and handed to the council in January 2016 following the Christmas break.
